System Zero

What happens if you make a whole interactive experience out of data? We asked ourselves that question. Transfo Intiem challenged us to come up with a installation based on the topic of loneliness. We wanted the visitors to ask themselves the question, on a scale of 1-5, how lonely do you really feel? I they pressed 1 on the scale, the room sounded very grim, lights flickered in cold colors and the interactive projection displayed isolated figures in an embryo postition. at the other end of the spectrum, the room sounded warm, with rich colors and the projection showed unity. In between, you had different stages of how the room looked and felt. This was a grand succes! Using an old kinect, hooked up to touchdesigner, we were able to track people inside the room from up above and we used it to influence the projection. The buttons controlled a DMX array of lights and a synth to create a whole experience. This way, our collected data translated how you and others felt in case of loneliness. If that was not allready impressive enough, we also made interactive posters. You were in the poster, displayed as a bunch of particles. The posters were infographics about what you could do yourself for lonely people. We made them way more interesting to interact with this way. You really had to be there...
